About the event:

Class is in session — and so is happy hour.

Learning doesn’t have to stop after school.

In a world of misinformation, we want to make real education more accessible - and way more fun.

This is a space for you to learn from real experts, ask questions, and connect with other curiuos, likeminded people - all In a fun, casual setting.

THIS MONTH’S TOPIC:

From the Manosphere to Looksmaxxing: The State of Men’s Mental Health Today

Men continue to experience poorer health outcomes, are dying younger, and are disproportionately affected by challenges such as the opioid crisis, social isolation, and barriers to accessing mental health support. At the same time, conversations about masculinity are rapidly evolving, shaped by changing social expectations and the growing influence of online spaces.

Join us for a discussion on what masculinity looks like today and how it impacts men’s mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. We will explore the role of social media in shaping narratives about manhood, from the rise of the "manosphere" to trends such as “looksmaxxing,” and consider how these messages influence boys and men.

This will be a solutions-focused conversation about what we need to know and what we can do to support boys’ and men’s mental health and strengthen families, friendships, and communities.

THIS MONTH’S EXPERT:

Dr. John Oliffe is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Men’s Health Promotion at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia. He is the founder and lead investigator of UBC’s Men’s Health Research program. His work focuses on masculinities as it influences men’s health behaviours and illness management, and its impact on partners, families and overall life quality. The MHR program secured over $48million in competitively funded research with >460 peer-reviewed published journal articles in collaboration with researchers and community partners worldwide.

Working with Movember, his most recent contributions include co-authoring the Real Face of Men’s Health: 2025 Canadian Report, which highlights the disproportionately high rates of premature death amongst men, and calls for a national men’s health strategy. The report garnered extensive media coverage and public interest, which helped secure the Federal Health Minister’s commitment to developing Canada’s first boys’ and men’s health strategy in early 2026.

EVENT DETAILS:

When: Monday, June 15th

Time: 6:30-9pm

Where: The Pleasant, 2434 Main St.
